Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α), also known as TNF ligand superfamily member 2 (TNFSF2) and cachectin, is a human recombinant protein consisting of 158 amino acids with a MW of 17.5 kDa. TNF-α is purified from recombinant E. Coli as a single, non-glycosylated peptide. TNF-α is a pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in the regulation of immune cells and is capable of inducing apoptotic cell death. TNF-α is naturally produced by activated macrophages, monocytes, T cells, NK cells, and neutrophils in response to infection.
TNF-α can be used in a variety of applications including cytotoxicity, cell proliferation assays, and assessing apoptotic and viral protection. This product is best used for inducing apoptosis to create a positive control.
