Immunofluorescent staining of MCF7 cells using 5 ug/mL rabbit polyclonal anti-Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) antibody (RP-4005) (green). The cells were mounted with Antibodies Incorporated Fluoroshield with DAPI mounting medium (Cat#AR-6501). DAPI nuclear stain (blue) shows cell nuclei. Anti-CEA stains the membrane of MCF7 cells.

CEA is a highly glycosylated 180 kDa glycoprotein involved in cell adhesion. It is normally produced during fetal development and then re-expressed in increased amounts in colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, lung and breast carcinomas. CEA measurement is mainly used as a tumor marker to identify recurrence after surgical resection.
